Buffer Fringe 2026
March 30, 2026
The Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival Returns! After a conscious pause, the 11th edition of Buffer Fringe is coming up between 2nd and 4th of October 2026.
The Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival by the Home for Cooperation, is the only Fringe Festival in Cyprus, and intercommunal since its inception both in terms of its organizing team but also the participating artists and audiences. Since its first edition in 2014, Buffer Fringe has evolved from a small, locally rooted event in the buffer zone to an internationally recognized festival, using performing arts to nurture dialogue, co-creation, and positive conflict transformation.
After ten consecutive editions, the Festival was consciously paused to reflect on its role as an intercommunal festival in Nicosia. Following its milestone 10th edition in 2023, it adopted a biennial format, a move that reflected both intention and ambition. This rhythm now allows more time to listen, imagine, and co-create a festival that better serves the evolving artistic landscape of Cyprus and beyond. The pause was extended through 2025, not as a retreat, but as an opportunity to create space for deeper collaborations, new artistic encounters, and programming that resonates across borders and communities in more sustainable ways. Like many in civil society and arts today, the Festival, and the Home for Cooperation, continue to face real challenges, yet remain driven by resilience and a strong commitment to creating, connecting, and transforming.
Buffer Fringe is a festival that highlights the powerful role of arts and culture in peaceful coexistence and societal transformation. This edition returns to the roots of what makes Buffer Fringe the Festival that it is: being a space for those who ‘dare to challenge’. It invites artists to respond to the open call with a solo or collaborative piece of max 45 minutes, which will be programmed in the 3-day Festival in October 2026.
