Welcome to the Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival!
On this website, you will find all you need to know about the most unique festival in Cyprus, originating from the buffer zone of Nicosia.
Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival was developed by the Home for Cooperation team in 2014, with the idea of providing a platform to question sensitive topics, expressing ideas in new and creative ways. The aim to enable people to engage with one another regardless of the dominant historical narratives, ideologies or identities which are very much politicized and often divisive for the peoples of Cyprus. Read more about the history of the festival here.
Home for Cooperation envision a multicultural and just society, freed from all types of discrimination and segregation. To this end, we are constantly working on creative ways to initiate interaction and communication between the communities of Cyprus to weaken the stereotypes and misconceptions about the “other” that result from the existing divide.
A performing arts festival has proven to be a unique tool to instigate discussions about personal or collective histories of traumas that the people of Cyprus have experienced in the past, and to promote understanding, respect and finally trust in one another. Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival, which was born out of a unique local situation in Nicosia, has established itself as a highly respected international festival.
Taking place in a divided country, Buffer Fringe Festival assumes more responsibilities than an arts festival taking place elsewhere. To this end, the Festival’s programming offers both local and international artists a platform to showcase their work and is organized in a way that artists can meet and interact both amongst themselves and with the audiences in a true celebratory spirit of multiculturalism and peaceful engagement.
